Further to my previous post:

Ontrack Disk Manager comes with an enhanced 32-bit disk access driver
for use with Drive Overlays.  The standard Win3.11 driver WDCTRL
doesn't work with Overlays.

I removed the enhanced driver from the system, leaving disk access
under win3.11 in 16-bit mode, and tried to download to the 1GB drive.

Result: No CRC errors at all!

Talk about "trial & error" to solve a problem.
