I wouldn't really call the cookie monster virus a virus. It's just a
nuisance program. What you saw in Hackers is the hotted up version for
hollywood. If they show the orignal one no one in the audience would
know what it was except the older viewers. Instead of showing the words
" I want a cookie " they showed a head graphic of the cookie monster
eating up bytes so todays audience would understand what it is and now
they think that's what you see when you get the cookie monster program.
It's just like when they showed a rabbit virus it show a rabbit graphic
bouncing around the screen.
I'm a fan of all the nuisance programs that were created back in early
and mid eighties. Cookie Monster , Ping Pong (so called worlds first
virus) , Yankee Doodle , Christmas Santa and the really anoying one
cascade which made one by one the letters on the screen fall and pile
up at the bottom of the screen.
