Once apon a time Steven Anderson said, 'Re: USR upgrade' to Simon Byrnand... SA> (I think we better move this to Z3_GAMES :) I dont get Z3_GAMES, sorry. SB> I take it then, that you have not played multiplayer (4 or more) deatmatch SB> over network cards much? There is just no comparison, internet play sucks, SA> Internet play only sucks IF you dont have a FAST ISP and/or no local SA> Quake server to play on..... It still sux :) SB> although Quakeworld is certainly an improvement. It is still fun in other SB> ways though, it can be hilarious when you actually fluke hitting someone ;) SA> I think you must have MAJOR proplems in your setup then, As I do not SA> notice a real difference with a network card or modem. I dont think I SA> 'fluked' 230+ frags last sunday when I played over the net :) I dont have any major problems with my setup, I have a 33.6K connection, and I used to get a steady ping time of 200ms (even with my old 14.4) when my ISP had a Quake server. That was JUST bareable. Playing on a Quake server that is actually being accessed across the internet is like playing chess by mail ;-) SA> Oh, my 33k6 connection may help also :) SA> V.Mach 43k2 protocal will speed QUAKE up even more :) :) No it wont sorry, the problem is not, and has never been bandwidth, it is the roundtrip time or ping time that is mainly responsible, and a faster connection to your ISP wont help.
