Hi Steve,

I wish I'd taken "someone's" advice a long time back, and purchased NDFS
earlier!
Once one has set up the Virtual Drive-root to hang the peripheral
drives-off, everything seems to be very smooth and seamless - if one
mounts a non-VFAT USB-drive(e.g. JFS/HPFS), it is accessible both from
the NDFS and under its original volume-letter, whereas with the
VFAT-formatted USB-drives, they are no longer accessible under their
normal volume-letter [Disk is in use/locked or whatever ...]. I had to
play around a little bit [never did get to actually use the Toronto
Virtual File System! :-) (TVFS)], to learn about adding connections -
detaching them etc. If one shuts down with virtual mount points
populated or at least not removed from the tree, then they are there
again after bootup.

There is a functional demo of NDFS (additional features are unlocked by
registration), and there is a Demo VFAT plugin available that reads but
not writes - adequate to retrieve LFN stuff off VFAT.

If your basic system is pretty static - minimal drive/volume-letter
shuffling, then your USB-devices will nearly always have the same
default volume-letter - if you're plugging in 3 USB-disks at one time -
in order to have the NDFS virtual drive's branches aligned, it's
necessary to plug-them in in the same sequence - otherwise the
mount-points don't match up with the descriptive name one gives them,
when created - I name mine like "HP-Lexar 512MB", "Legend
512MB",
'A-Data 2GB" etc.

Give it a try!

Regards,
Mike
