Started a new gig this week. Going back out on the road again with a band.
But this time, there's actually money involved!
It's this oldies band called Rocky and the Rollers, and we do mostly concerts
and conventions. Other than the travel, it's a pretty cool gig. We usually
do a set on our own then back up some 50's-60's act that doesn't have its own
band. This past Monday night, we backed up the Platters, and this weekend,
we'll be playing with the Marvelettes, Coasters, and Shangri-Las in Kentucky
and Indiana. Upcoming gigs will include such luminaries of yesteryear as
Frankie Ford (Sea Cruise), Lou Christie (Lightning Strikes, Two Faces Have
I), Bowzer from Sha Na Na, and Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits. Gotta do a
lot of reading and gotta really be on my toes for some of this stuff. OTOH,
some of it's real easy. The Platters was pretty easy until they started
going off the set list.
I also have to spend a lot of bucks on Anvil cases and clothing alterations,
but I think this might end up being a pretty cool gig. For now, we're
sticking close to Fla for the most part, but we have some out-of-state gigs
coming up, too. I'll let you know the dates as I get em if anyone wants to
come visit me when I'm in your area. Ain't getting rich with this band but
I'm making better money than I ever have, so I'm cool with that!
