This is similar to AC97 and HDA, where the sound controller was separated 
from the sound codec.  This allows a motherboard maker to use an 
inexpensive chipset, and pick pretty much any codec that fits their needs. 
In this case, the MAC is part of the chipset, and the PHY is the 
third-party piece, selected by the motherboard manufacturer.

In this scenario, the MAC address comes from the nForce chipset.

As with AC97 and HDA, you need a driver for the chipset.  That driver also 
needs to be aware of the specific PHY (or sound codec), but the interfaces 
are mostly generic.  As already mentioned, the NVETH driver might work.
