It was a small military base near Lake Huron, Ontario which was built on
land which was alleged to be owned by the First Nation people of
Kettle Point reservation.

About 10 years ago, the natives occupied the base claiming it as
their land.  The Ontario Provincial Police tried to expel the
"squatters", some shots were fired, and when it was over a native
named Dudley George was shot dead.

The government turned the land over to the native people as far as
I know and abandoned it as a military base.  The shooting of
Dudley George is still a sore point between the first nation people
and the Governments of Canada and Ontario.

When I was a youth, I spent the summer of 1959 as an Army Cadet at
Ipperwash and two summers following as an Army reserve instructor.
I naturally have a soft spot in my heart for that base as it
played a big part in my growing up.
