Hi Gary as to wear/not wear underwear beneath bikeshorts, in my experience i 
have always worn underwear without any of the problems you have mentioned. If 
your underwear does bunch up as you have described, they are too loose. I 
find that wearing underwear extends the life of the shorts since there is 
less wear and salt given off with sweat settle on the underwear without 
touching the shorts. Salt is corrosive to clothing and the fabric breaks 
down. I don't find it to be uncomfortable wearing underwear under shorts. I 
guess if you find it more comfortable riding without underwear, the shorts 
shoud be washed or dunked in water to remove sweat.
