What browser are you using?  If you are using IE 6.0, what are the settings
in Tools/Internet Options/Privacy?  If it's "High, use the option to
allow cookies for windowsupdate.microsoft.com

There is a full AU option where an icon appears and if you click on it, it
will tell you what is available and then retrieve it if you want it and
install it.

I would expect that you could.

Apart from what I've already noted, do you use a firewall?
