I mean I never considered a balanced budget to be leftist, or borrowing
huge sums of money to be rightist .

I seem to recall just 24 years ago a certain presidential candidate ran
saying that he would balance he budget in four years. Guess Reagan was
leftist  then.

As far as how safe US debt is that all depends on the future now doesn't
it. Right now we are hoping to cut the huge deficits in half in 5 years at
BEST.

Approx 1/3 of the budget is going for interest now.

I don't consider this prudent or sound for the future and don't see how in
the hell you can.

Safe is also not defined as spending money like a drunken sailor with no
thought of tomorrow.

Hint leftist can be right on occasion even as the right can.
