Concerning _Antenna_, Bill Cheek said to Troy H. Cheek in SCANRADIO:
TC>> This, I've been afraid to try. Oh, I've keyed up the mike
BC> accidentally a
TC>> time or two, but have never actually transmitted.

BC> Keying the mic is......"transmitting". Very much so. :-)
But the difference in power between deadkeying and yelling into your
amplified mic? Looks like a lot when watching the meter while other people
are talking.
BC> Otherwise, the input transformer and probably the preamplifier
BC> transistor are likely to blow.
Which is my fear, I guess. An otherwise perfectly good piece of equipment
that happens to be deaf.
BC> It is a little different when the transmitter is not connected to the
BC> receiver. 4-watts out of the antenna, spread out over the spherical
BC> wavefront means only a few milliwatts into the receiver, even if the
BC> two are fairly close.
Pretty much what I figured, though I was going intuitively without using
math. I figure a CB antenna on one side of the trunk and a scanner antenna
on the other ought to be safe enough, especially considering how wide my car
is. If not, well, I think everything is still under warranty. :-)
