Last week we were having our weekly jam session, and a new guy came over
and brought his guitar, and some kind of multi-effects pedal that was
relatively new. He didn't seem to know how to work it very well, but
did manage to get some good effects out of it. However in the process
he got some _really_ loud unintentional noises out of it also. ;-(
The result of all of this... When I played through it the other night,
(it's my spare/practice amp) it sounded crappy. I think the speaker
is now shot. It's a Fender M-80. It's solid state with "tube-emulation"
Whatever that is. :-) Anyway, I really like this amp, as it has a good
tone, 2 channels, one clean, one you can really crank the gain on. It
has tons of power, maybe 80 watts? Also has two inputs and a headphone
jack. This is handy for plugging in a mike, guitar or bass, and doing
some "silent" practice. Well, almost silent. Nice sounding reverb too.
The speaker in there now says "Fender Musical Instruments"
"Special Design Speaker" on a blue round sticker on the back. On a
smaller sticker on the top edge of the magnet it has the following
numbers printed on it: 025923 12730 8ê 67-94041055 G1
Out of those numbers, I'm only sure of what the 8ê means...
I'm guessing the others are Fender part number and maybe serial number.
Should I replace this with the same part, or should I pursue an after
market part that may be stronger ? I'm actually surprised a single
12" speaker handles this amp, and produces the amount of volume it
does. Anyway, I'm not very familiar with what's available out there
in the area of replacement parts, so if anyone has any suggestions,
I'd love to hear them.
