MAC as in "MAC Address" when dealing with networking is
"Media Access Control"... the MAC Address is a unique
"code" (or address) assigned to most forms of networking
hardware... this address is a 48-bit hexadecimal number... with the first
three "doublets" (pairs of numbers), you can look up who actually
made your hardware...
