-> It's been many years. I first started a BBS back in 1987 on a Tandy 1000 EX -> (with an external hd). Over the years it progressed and changed until it's -> final day in 1995/96 when I shut it down and moved on. Strangely, the BBS bug -> never left my soul and I'm considering starting up one once again (only much -> smaller!). I have many questions though as you can see, it's been years. I -> still have the software (Wildcat, Spitfire, Searchlight and I'll have to check -> the archive box for anything else... all the door programs as well, mostly -> from Al Lawrence and Mike Wilson). I still have old equipment here (ranging -> from a 286 to a Pentium 600Mhz). Anyway, on with the questions and hopefully -> obtain some wisdom from folks here. First, Glenn, let me take this opportunity to welcome you back to the BBS world and wish you and your a happy and safe holiday season. -> Is the only way now via Telnet, internet or does the old modem method still -> achieve inbound callers? While the Internet does bring in its share of callers, there are still a few dialups around these days that seem to do very well. -> Has any of the old software I've listed been patched for the Y2K issue? While I can't speak for the others, I can tell you that the DOS version of Wildcat! 4.2 is no longer maintained or supported by Santronics Software; however, there are, I believe, some third party patches to make it Y2K compliant. Myself, I run the Windows version of Wildcat - Wildcat! Interactive Net Server - which is up to version 6,3 as I post this here on my board. -> I'm sure I'll have a few more questions if that's okay... Feel free to ask. That's what we are here for. And again, welcome aboard and happy holidays! --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Omicron Theta | Buffalo NY | robertwolfe.org (1:261/20) SEEN-BY: 10/1 11/200 331 14/250 18/200 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 236/150 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 SEEN-BY: 261/1411 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 396/45 633/104 260 267 285 SEEN-BY: 690/682 734 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 105 200 303 SEEN-BY: 5030/1256 @PATH: 261/20 38 633/260 267 |
