I had been working full-time nights during high-school, then after
graduation I went to school for auto mechanics and got a part-time job that
paid about $71/week. I got laid off from that job (lots of problems in the
early 70s with oil supplies etc.) and filed for unemployment, they based
the unemployment amount on my last year's earnings that included the
full-time work and paid me $76/week 

Not for long though, I forget how long, but they found me a job as an auto
mechanic with a very small shop. That was fine with me, I wasn't really all
that big on collecting anyway - but I'm the only person I know that they
actually found a job for - it was mostly a "go look for a job and turn
in a sheet showing where you applied" deal and a rubber stamp for
another 2 weeks benefits.

Ironically enough, the following year I got another job in an entirely
different industry and the employees went out on strike, I went back to the
part-time employer that had laid me off 2 years prior and picked up a
week's work with them during the strike
