It is my understanding that the woman was actually fired because she
failed to sign a Performance Improvement Plan. Such P. I. P.'s are
standard practice in government for employees that have persistant
difficulties in producing on the job. In the Federal Government, or at
least the V. A., failure to sign a PIP is grounds for termination. There
is an appeal process if you feel that the PIP is unfair, and it can be
altered, but you must sign it to begin with. It has been my experience
that there is usually alot more to these situations than meets the eye, so
we shouldn't rush to judgement either of her, or her agency. The A. D. A.
only says that accomodation must be provided, it doesn't necessarily have
to be the accomodation of the employee's choice. For example, an employer
can opt for the use of a reader, rather than a computer, or vice versa.
