Some companies (Sears is one) pay the difference between military pay and previous salary. They are not required to, and some do not, and the family has to suck it up. Yes, NG volunteer for service; yes, they know they are liable to call-up; but the past few years have been enormously out of proportion to previous experience, including Vietnam. They are getting hammered, and ought to be compensated. I just saw an article about a 70-year-old retiree recalled to active duty; he is a dentist, a colonel, and is presently in Afghanistan. Points up those stories about the potential for selective drafts, where medical people are top of the list. -- Steve http://www.qmss.com/sewing --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
