-> You should check out the book "The Collectors Encyclopedia of
-> Disneyana" from Collectors books. It's awesome! Each item they
-> describe has a full color picture with it, and they show stuff from
-> the 30's through the 50's you'll probably never see in real life.
-> It's a fantastic book!
I would LOVE to have that book, but I was actually talking about my
VIDEO collection rather than my Disneyanna collection. My Disneyanna is
GREATLY overshadowed by my video library. I have been collecting only
for about ten years, yet I have over 1270 different movies and TV shows
in my Disney video library. Some of the stuff (Like "Victory Through Air
Power") is rare stuff never released on home video. Some was released in
the early eighties and then never again. A lot of them are movies made
for TV (like "Gone Are the Dayes") that were shown maybe once and then
disapeared into oblivion. Some are cartoon shorts that simply are not
shown any more for one reason or another and have never been released on
home video.
Much of the studio's best work is lost to this generation because the
company has decided NOT to release it. The stuff I'm talking about is
NOT second-rate work by any means. Donald Duck's World War II cartoon
shorts, for example, are wonderful! They are really very well done -
much better than some of the stuff they show on the Disney Channel. Some
were released in other countries ("Song of The South" in Japan, for
instance), but I have hundreds and hundreds of things that were not
released ANYWHERE on video. They came right from the Disney archives
from people who worked there and wanted to share.
It is a shame and I hope that the company softens their attitude on
these things so that everyone can see them. If they don't, as time goes
by the copyrights will expire and other companies will release them and
Disney will lose out on the revenues.
