It may have beeen that this journo-bloke was somewhat over-egging his role.

A soldier did ask the question.

Other soldiers were not in obvious disagreement with the proposition.

A while back (when the Black Watch moved north) people were not comfortable
with thin skinned trucks except in convoy & even then...

At the very least desert dust roads & land mines are easy companions
& iraq has massive minefields where people who know mines could go
& disarm/rearm a mine for use elsewhere.
