Today there were 154 that did not returned host unknown. Of those 131
did not return an IP address for 142 consecutive days.
If a system fails to update its dynamic IP adress with the DNS drovider,
that system is not functioning and most likely down.
I do not know how the NC's of those nodes determin if this are active systems,
but it is certainly not by regular connects.
This can be extended to RC's and ZC's as among the above groups are
nethosts and region hosts.
One RC told me the systems in his region were temporarily down. What was
missing was his definition of temporarily.
The Nodelist is sometimes used as a list of sysops whoe are entitled to
vote on Fidonet subjects. With als these ghost systems in teh nodelist there
can never be a fair vote.
