It's easy if you never used BASIC before. I used it before, and took me a
while to forget about all the old commands :)

You'll have to persist a lot. Get as many samples of programs as you can find
especially real programs that the author has allowed distribution of the
source. These are great to print out and 'study' to figure out what they did,
how and why.
