I have exactly the same problem, and I wasn't able to fix it yet.
I've got a 486 DX4-120 with 8 MB RAM, but I've got a P166+ with 16
MB RAM too, and the jerks are not there. Maybe its a cache problem.
I can't really help, but if you find the solution, please tell me.
