I think if you want the release version go with that, or if you want the
cvs version go with that. That works for me but I'm not sure how to go
about doing the ebuild thing in gentoo but if you guys can make that happen
it would be simpler to get MBSE installed.

On the other hand I found that doing the install myself as per the INSTALL
file I learned a lot that I need to know about MBSE that I wouldn't know
otherwise.
