Stephen, at 14:14 on Jan 20 1997, you wrote to John Piper... SK> Sorry to raise this old issue but I have one of the infamous SK> Dynalinks which are the re-badged USR Sportsters with the SK> v42 bug. Interestingly, I've never experienced this bug (ie SK> the delay during direct transfer mode) that others have SK> reported and wondered whether Dynalink applied SDLs to these SK> modems to fix this bug? Nope. That model Dynalink is based on the USR Sportster, which does not have flash-ROM, just your average EPROM. Ergo, the only cure is to physically replace the EPROM (sadly, a non-socketed SMD device). It has also been suggested that S12=0 fixes the problem, but I'm not in a position to verify this. Aside from that problem though, they're a damn nice modem. SK> Word was that Dynalink refused to admit there was a bug, but USR was SK> issuing upgrades. Can you (or anyone else) enlighten me on this? I spoke with Dynalink just yesterday, and they did actually acknowledge the problem, presumably because the buggy model has since been replaced by a fully functional version (one of which I'm about to evaluate).
