Your dad sounds tough! I hope he is doing well, recovery can
sometimes be the worse part of the situation.
I recently got WP 6.1W and experienced the GFIs everyone noted, so
upgraded to WP 7.0. WOW! Why do they constantly change things to
make it harder and harder for the user? I can't figure out the File
Manager, it drastically changed from the 6.1D/6.1W formats, and I
spend more time trying to do things "intuitively" than it's worth.
Seems you should read the manual every time you upgrade from one
version. Just how popular would an auto manufacturer be if the buyer
had to be TOTALLY re-trained every time he bought a new car?
The only reason I got 7.0W was for inclusion of graphics images in
the genealogy manuscripts I'm doing; and I couldn't buy 6.1cD! Now I
see Corel is advertising 5.1D & 6.1D for $69. I wonder if it is the
6.1a/b/cDOS of Word Perfect Corp? I'm close to scrapping 7.0W and
going back to 6.1D.
My current project is a 250 page manuscript with 75 photos. I was
getting the photos half-tones at a local copier for $10 each and
then pasted into the master doc. After the first 20 I broke down and
got a HP 5L ($400) and ScanMan Easy Touch hand scanner ($125). The
results are as good as the $10 half tones! I also have the images on
HD and could have included them as images had I stuck with 6.1D.
But, no, I got fancy and went 6.1W>7.0W. The manuscript is 988K in
WP 5.1+ and takes about 30 minutes to print on the HP 5L. I tried
7.0W and found the file is 1.7MEGS! and would take about 1.5 HOURS
to print. Also found that CG Times, 12 pt, isn't the same for WP
5.1+ and WP 7.0W so pagination really changed-- splitting families,
graphics on wrong pages, etc., changing the ToC and Index.
Evidently WP 7.0W doesn't stream non-graphics data to the printer,
but waits till each page is finished before preparing the next page.
Sheeze, how long winded can I be? Sigh...
