Hi Ian & Ed,

Thanks to you both for the great suggestions. I think the easiest path
for me to follow is to start with the software and conflict suggestions.
AICU160.add should be up to date as I am running ecs 1.2 but I will
double check and at least use a fresh copy from the cd. I didn't know
that there was a newer SMP kernel than what I am running. Will be sure
to get it.

On the hardware side I was sure that disabling the onboard scsi and
putting in a scsi card would solve my problem but it only took 10
minutes to be proved wrong. Since I rebooted I have been running it for
about 2 hours with no problems, go figure.

Changing the cable makes sense as it (and ram) are the commen factors
bewteen the onboard and scsi card. I must say I can't answer the
termination question. The machine was used and when I turned it on the
scsi was enabled so I never considered it. I'm quite rusty on scsi
matters so how do I tell? I have a harddrive and tape drive internally
and nothing externally. If I remember right termination is turned on in
the scsi bios?

Thanks again for your help.

Regards, Jim
