What was the states interest in interracial marriage ?

Why should the state have ANY interest in marriage . Marriage is a
religious institution. What business is it of the state to interfere in
religion? Reproduction yes as there can be unfortunate effects from in
breeding but why is that any different from the other heath and welfare of
the citizens ? Wouldn't an individual care far more about their own
reproduction than the state ?

So the state doesn't have an interest in whether people starve to death ?
if the citizens aren't healthy and educated where will our future military
come from ?

if you want to argue that the Goverment has no business in welfare or
social security etc that's fine I conside that to be a valid argument, just
don't give me this bull about Dems feel people are too dumb when the repubs
have some of the same positions on other matters of indiviual choice, or
the bull about the states interest. the state is NOTHING without the people
. it belongs to the people ( or its supposed to).
