Hi Sarah, PK> Dare I say this may date the both of us slightly.....;-) SN> Well, maybe a little. Ok youngster...;-) SN> I was still in school when I was SN> doing the cardpunch thing, and we did it only because SN> the 360/370 Assembler emulator wasn't working on the SN> regular computers (Burroughs something-or-other SN> machine). We had to resort to an ancient Sperry 90 in SN> the basement that took only IBM cards. Careful, talking about Sperry like like may turn the clock back before me! Straight from school into the Computer room. SN> I also SN> remember visiting my father at work after hours, when SN> he'd load a deck of IBM cards on the computer and let SN> me play a (very crude) game of baseball with the SN> computer. Our machine ran DOS (IBM Mainframe DOS, not PC DOS), however we also had TOS (Tape Operating System) and a card based system for REAL emergencies. Never used either in 4 years though... SN> Paper tape was before any time I remember, though. I SN> can't help it that I'm young--I was born that way. ;-) PPT (Punched Paper Tape) as the data entry format used by old Burroughs 60W machines, this was numeric data for banking applications. After about 18 months they were replaced by a Tape based mini that proved much more reliable. SN> I guess I don't mind as long as the moderator doesn't SN> mind. I just figured this thread would rapidly stray SN> from REXX into general programming topics, which would SN> probably be more appropriate in OS2PROG. Well yes, OOP can be applied to a number of environments, however I think Dave is pretty focused on Rexx in this Echo. I have played a bit with Object Rexx, in fact I use it as my defaujt Rexx processor because of its superior error finding capabilities, but 95% of my code is Classic Rexx stuff. I tend to write very linear code, something that's quite logical to read. OOP tends to try and make me think different, which I do tend to fight quite a bit....;-) Cheers............pk. --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: Another Good Point About OS/2 (3:772/1.10) SEEN-BY: 10/3 345 20/11 105/360 106/1 2 3 1234 2000 123/500 124/5025 128/187 SEEN-BY: 130/803 132/152 140/1 143/2 150/220 154/15 167/133 201/505 226/600 SEEN-BY: 229/1000 2000 3000 249/116 267/200 280/5003 333/0 379/1 103 1200 SEEN-BY: 396/45 397/1 633/267 270 712/848 2404/201 2624/306 3634/12 3800/1 @PATH: 772/1 140/1 106/2000 1 379/1 |
