Mike More was heard to tell All the following
about MORE TT on 07-18-96 21:01:
MM> M600 1798*1810:MURRAY\Glasgow, Scotland/Lanark, Scotland

I would be interested in finding out a little more about
this Murray. My Brother and I picked up Murrays in Pgh.,
Pa.
Mary Murry (B:1896 in Pgh.; D: 1976 in Pgh., Pa) was the
Daughter of John Murray and Rose Murphy. At this point,
it is presumed one or both Parents were immigrants in the
late 1800's.
Mary married Andrew "Toots" McGowan (B: 1899 in Pgh, Pa;
D: 1979 in Pgh., Pa.) ca. 1924. I remember Aunt Mary and
she had a slight accent, most probably picked up from the
section of Pittsburgh she lived in.
The Andrew McGowan she married was the son of Andrew McGowan
(B: 1867 in Caulderbank, Lanark, Scotland) and Margaret
Dawson (B: 1866 in Dalry, Ayr, Scotland). Hence the reason
for a nickname for the son. Why "Toots" (The "OO" in "Toots"
is pronounced as a short "O", not a long "O" as I razz my
Father over. ) remains a mystery, even my Father's Mother
didn't clearly remember why that Nick-Name while she was alive.
Andrew (B: 1867) was the son of Terrence McGowan (B: Ca. 1832
in Scotland) and Fanney Wyllie (Daughter of William Wyllie and
Rose Ann Mc Cullough).
I suppose any further discussions should be taken to the other
echo. As soon as I figure out why I can not upload my Tiny
Tafel, I will get that on-line.
Thanks,
John
