JC>> At other times I can dial out, connect 28.8 /etc /etc like it should. DH>> IMHO, you've met a S3 "upgrade". The dial tone has changed. AM> You mean an Alcatel System 12? Ashley Simmons of Telstra and a member of AM> Austel You bet... My USR Domestic Courier is using the latest (Sept 96) SDL and the Dialtone and Busy detection work a treat when I am on any other exchange except System12. What are the pro's for using S12...if any. So far I have only run into the con's. 1. Lack of bandwith even though the hybrids are trained. 2. Forces me to use X1 (blind dial) because Its service tone detection cant deal with the frequencies that my modem can. AM> Working group 2/1 claims that the problems with dial tone detection are AM> usually AM> due to the detector looking at the dial tone's envelope and not at the AM> modulation products.
