But Bill, there was some sophistication involved with these options.
The 396 SS's were just plain brute force and awkwardness. (AND the
goats.) In my opinion the much maligned 348 was the real start of the
"Muscle cars" which to me meant raw torque and neck snapping punch off
the line. I had both, the 348 and the 396 SS and I LOVED 'em! (I also
had souped up small displacement Studebakers, (2 13/16" Stroke) with
factory Duntovs that would scare the hell out of Chevy 265's and 283's
but they were not Muscle cars, they were 'sprinters'.)
I'm now sadly reduced to a 3.8 liter forked six that won't get out of
its own way, but lets just say my priorities have changed....
