DT> Does anyone with a M34F have a USR connect with them on a regular basis? DT> I am thinking of buying a USR. I gave up on this combination, but for some reason (everybody assures me it's very unusual), I have never achieved satisfactory results above V.32bis with a Rockwell on one end and a USR on the other. AT&T to USR, yes. USR to USR, yes. Rockwell, no. I've tried several datapump revisions, several firmware revisions, and several SDL revisions on the USR end, and I've never achieved a stable and workable combination. This is worst on ISD links. My uplink in Texas [I gate some netmail, and a few Fido echos, into Zone 1] runs a USR V.E. My M11F won't connect above V.32bis. Zoom V.34I won't connect above V.32bis. M34F I tested (this was a 6682-21 datapump) wouldn't connect above V.32bis. Boca MT288I won't connect above V.32bis. So I lock at V.32bis when I call him, and the mail gets through. If the worst comes to the worst, tell your callers to lock their Rockwells at V.32bis when calling you. It will annoy them mightily, though. Note that the different country-localized versions of the USRs have very different performance. Most of my testing has been with FCC (American) models. I haven't extensively tested Australian models, however on the occasions -I- have called -out- to USR sites with my M11F, I have had to lock at V.32b again. A few sites have test-called my M11F and M34F (and a couple of others) with their USRs, and achieved good results. -- Lewin A.R.W.
