-> I love the descriptions of the earrings you work on but you use some
-> terms I'm not familiar with. What are stringers and what is dichoric
-> glass? Do you make your own glass? Do you need a large kiln to do
-> that?
Stringers are glass rods that are about 1/4" that are heated then pulled
till the glass is very thin. Dichoric is a type of glass that is very
popular arund here. It glitter and refracts light and is really
gorgeous. Paula Radke works with it a lot as do a lot of other glass
artists. Its almost like a brilliant mettalic item without and
reflections. My kiln has an 8" x 8" shelf and I can put dozens of beads
in there or about 10 to 15 fused glass pieces depending on the size.
-> Your dream catchers sound lovely. I make some but I never mastered
-> putting beads on them. What do you put on them besides the web?
There are two ways of doing this. I think the easiest way is to put
them on at the beginning of the project and just slip the beads into
place. I always put a couple of extra on my wire/thread so if I counted
wrong I won't have to stop and restring then start again. I sell my
stuff at the local bead society and craft shows. I'm going to be doing
one in Mountain View CA next month and severl more through the year.
ONe of the craft shows will have around 90,000 people attending.
-> I guess my crafting is more dabbling as I switch from one craft to
-> another. Lately, the jewelry I've been making is from silk ribbon.
-> I made pins but haven't experimented with earrings yet.
I use to dabble until I found beads. I still like painting and
rubberstamping for a change but my main focus is jewelry. I love
working with hot glass. I love opening the kiln after a work session
aand seeing what comes out. The anticipation reminds me of Christmas
morning.
