Yes there are a couple of books.There is in a small book that was written
back in the '40s and published in 1950 by A. Bouwers called *Achievements
In Optics*.  That and Linfoot's book is what I used with a pocket
calculator for years.  The system, the way you received it ,  was my first
intuitive guess.  The system's first surface correction was e= 1.618, that
was on an early scrap of paper.  As I uncovered more stuff I found notes
showing  a string down to .6001 with the corrector RoC as you have it. 
Toward the end I shortened the radius and weakened the correction.  I'm
still trying to figure out how to enter some of this stuff into OSLO make
it work... I'LL get it. I would have mailed you with the info but my server
was down.
