I ran into the "shared for administrative purposes" thing when I
tried to change permissions on a root directory on one of my drives, which
were shared by default upon installation. I found that by changing it to
"not shared", I could then later share it again, and take
ownership of it. Now instead of everyone having access to the drive, only
administrators have access to it.
