I've ground my most recent mirrors with Hydrostone flush with the tile
surface with no problems at all. I feel confident about going to 5 microns
with these tools. The small amount of dissolved Hydrostone in the slurry
seems to have no grinding affect on the surface. I've never had a edge
swipe, sleek, or scratch. I see no reason to bevel or otherwise specially
treat the tile edges.

I like to make the tools so there is at least 6mm of plaster between the
outermost tile and the edge of the tool -- this prevents tile-edge swipes
when lifting the tool. After the initial coarse grinding I put a mark at a
position where there is a particularly long, flat, flush run of plaster
between the tile and the edge. When I remove the tool, I tilt it slightly
to pull this "safe" spot off last.
