CB>"Most early reading difficulties are rooted in an inefficient word

Phonemic awareness is a critical element in teaching reading and it
is very teachable. I would love to hear more about it. I began
collecting articles a few years back.
CB>Some of the things teachers may do to strengthen recognition
CB>skills, as proposed in the article, include 1)teaching children to
CB>rhyme [discuss rhyming
CB>words and why they rhyme - use poems and nursery rhymes], 2)oddity
CB>[tasks picking words that *don't* rhyme from a list], 3)syllable
CB>[splitting pronouncing the "in" from the word "pin", to learn that
CB>words are made up of parts), 4)phoneme manipulation [moving the
CB>parts of words around using a device
CB>such as a sound board], and 5)strengthening the child's knowledge of
CB>the alphabet.
CB>
CB>The reading-writing connection is also seen as a vital component of
CB>learning to
CB>read..."When children create spellings based on their knowledge of
CB>the sound system of their language, it helps them work out the
CB>alphabetic principle."
Charles...this stuff all sound very good...do you have more?
