subject: Odd behaviour

I have been getting some rather odd behaviour from the Courier lately and
can't put the finger on the cause. Anyone wanna have a chew on this is
welcome.

Firstly the symptoms. On certain occasions (when the moon is in the right
quarter?) the modem flat out refuses to dial out. When dial out is
attempted the following happens:-

start: TR MR RS CS leds all on.
dial: OH comes on for up to 1 second, speaker on and start of dial
            tone heard.
OH and MR leds both go off after 1 second.
MR stays off for 2-3 seconds then CS flashed (retrain?) and MR
and CS leds come back on.
finish: TR MR RS CS leds all on.

At other times I can dial out, connect 28.8 /etc /etc like it should.

I've tried X5 which should have told it to blind dial with no effect. I
have increased S8 to 10 seconds with no change. I have also tried &d0
and &d2 settings to no avail.

It's a puzzlement!

The Courier is running on a '486/33 with OS/2 Warp Connect operating
system. The I4 profile is listed below.
