The library code that's compiled in is under the LGPL (library GPL), which was modified to allow such distribution. For that matter, you can sell GPL'ed programs -- you just have to include the source, and you can't restrict the buyer from reselling any number of copies. :-) As I understand it, the Cygnus Win32 compiler is a special case, because the compiled programs require a GPL'ed (not LGPL'ed) .DLL to work. :-( There's an alternate port of the GNU compiler to Win32, based on EMX, that doesn't have this problem; but it also lacks the POSIX support of Cygnus (or so I'm told). ...
