Simon, at 22:07 on Jan 31 1997, you wrote to Bill Grimsley...

Socketed DIL (not soldered PLCC like the previous version).

Although I've never seen the problem, USR claim that it only ever
manifested itself during interactive or chat mode (such as typing commands
when online to your local BBS), and that file transfers etc remain
unaffected. Even if yours IS the buggy version, chances are that you may
never see the fault anyway.

As long as you're happy with an internal modem, sure.

No big deal, USR owners here don't get any backup from USR either. :)

I can't remember the last time I connected at V.FC (which only goes to
28k8, BTW), and although I've never personally seen that strange response,
I think Paul Edwards once did on a Courier he was evaluating. It only ever
happened the once, and nobody could figure out what caused it.

SB> Does it mean anything?

Only that a line hit had probably scrambled the EPROM. :)

Regards, Bill
