Don,

That's a pretty deep crater you got goin' there, for a 10" f/6.6...
Are you working by hand?  How thin is the mirror?  How long are your
polishing sessions?  If you are working by hand are you protecting the
glass from the heat of your hands?

plate glass, you know, is real "expandy and contracty" stuff,
horribly sensitive to localized temperature variations.  Usually a hard lap
with short center over center strokes yeilds the exact opposite results to
what you are describing.  I'd start by building a new lap...
