I think you've already told us why .... It booted before you reconnected
the SCSI device - the bios is seeing the SCSI device first saying it is
not a bootable harddisk - which a tape drive is not ! and then doesn't
go further.
If possible in your bios, change the boot order to have IDE before SCSI
(or take SCSI out of the boot order).
