From: "Mel Bartels" To: , , , Reply-To: "Mel Bartels" 3/4 inch thick plywood rocker board for an 18 inch scope is very minimal. My 20 inch in its several iterations had the equivalent of 4 layers of 3/4 inch appleply plus a thin metal layer for the bearings to run against. If the error is repeatable, then it can be characterized and removed by software capable of pointing analysis. To me what this analysis says is that building a scope for push it by hand visual use and building a scope for decently accurate tracking where one might want to actually attach a viable instrument like a digital camera lead to two very different designs.
