Consider yourself lucky. Meko drinks from the toilet rather
than her water bowl. I've tried more than one bowl with no
success...only the "toilet bowl" interests her. And if I
leave the lid down for a few hours, she'll wait until I go
that way, then remind me to raise the lid...after which she
will gorge herself! (And yes, I _always_ flush, so at least
the water is reasonably clean.)

It may be nothing more than a preference for running water.
In the wild, cats associate movement with freshness, and
this behavior carries over to domestic kitties. (Dogs too,
for that matter.) Also, a stream of water from a tap may
offer some amusement, especially since he knows he's trained
you to turn it on for him.
I also understand that excessive thirst is one symptom of
diabetes, Most likely, Sir Henry's behavior has nothing to
do with diabetes and everything to do with personal
preference; but just to be safe, be sure to mention this
behavior to your/his vet at the earliest possible
opportunity. If Sir Henry isn't scheduled for a visit to
the vet anytime soon, a special visit might be wise.
