BG>Hi John,
Hey Bonnie!
BG> Don't have docs handy, but didn't the Dynaco Mark III use a
BG>multisection 600 volt cap with a number of 20 uF sections?
30/20/20/20uF @ 525VDC, according to what I have sitting here.
BG>You are talking the typical power supply ripple smoothing, right?
Yeah, the usual cap input pi filter, but I'll be changing things around a bit
further "upstream" on the input/driver boards. I've found that regulating
the output tube supply sometimes compresses the sound a bit. Tight power
supply regulation on the input/driver stage, however, is almost always
beneficial as long as it's low-Z and quite stiff.
BG>Give me an exact description of what you need in voltage rating,
BG>sections and capacitance required..
I can't be exact right now as I haven't nailed down what I'm gonna actually
do to these guys. Probably something in the 550VDC range, any capacitance,
twist-lok. I favor photoflash and LASER discharge caps for power supply
areas as they tend to be low-Z/high voltage, and relatively inexpensive. The
twist-lok will go up on top of the chassis for aesthetic reasons, the rest of
the caps get stowed underneath - also for aesthetic reasons.
BG>Come to think of it.. suitable caps for tube equipment are getting to
BG>be rarer than hen's teeth an probably quite expensive nowadays!!
... indeed... And those that got 'em *know* it, too.
Tootles...
