DR> I have a friend who insists that all cats have parvo as a natural
DR> defense to protecting themselves against other animals, such as dogs.
DR> This doesn't sound right to me. She may have heard the information
DR> incorrectly or she may be totally insane. If you have any information
DR> in regards to cats and parvo virus, would you send it my way so we can
DR> get all this straightened out?
Doesn't sound right to me either, Dianne, although I'm not
a veterinarian and have no specific knowledge. If parvo
were a natural defense, it would have to discourage
predators instantly rather than simply cause an illness
several days/weeks later.
DR> Her cat just delivered a litter of kitties and I am assuming that
DR> anything the mother has has been passed on to them. Her dogs have
DR> allegedly caught parvo from the mother cat and died due to the virus.
If the mother has the parvo virus, it's a good bet that the
kittens are also infected. Tell your friend all the
cats/kittens should be tested by a vet; other pets in the
household, too.
