Hello, Derek.
Thursday March 18 2010 at 09:57, you wrote to me:

You've not completely read the message. Basically, what he's wanting to do
is turn SyncTerm and Synchronet into some kind of bastardized website.

Oh, no, not all of you do, I know this. It was quipped to me that
"most of the sysops supporting this change can't keep a BBS up longer
than two months" and after I read the entire post, yep, I tend to
agree. Now I've got a reputation for switching BBS software-I admit
that-but I've had a BBS pretty much full-time for the past 14 years. As I
said in previous posts on this, you aren't going to advance a thirty year
old technology much farther than it is now until you turn it into something
completely different.
Personally, if I was ever to run Synchronet again, I'd run Synchronet
v2.30c (as I did under OS/2). If I wanted to run an ISP with the Internet
servers, I'd do it. I want to run a text-based, old-school BBS. I don't
know many people who visit a BBS expecting to get a website-ish feature set
in it.
My BBS supports TTY (yes, I have TTY callers) and ANSI, that's it. If
Stephen learns his lesson from past mistakes, all he has to do is look at
Pat Clawson and RIP. It seems that he's trying to turn Synchronet and/or
SyncTerm into some over-hyped, overly testosteroned website.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
(Also, as the moderator of BBS_CARNIVAL, I'd like to remind you that this
echo requires real names. You can use your current moniker as long as you
sign your real name at the bottom of the message.)
