But the difference is that no one really expects them to do anything about
the poor because they don't (usually) lie like the other side and say they
will.  Yeah, it still sucks, but at least it is honest suckage.

True.  Honestly, having a D in the White House probably made it easier for
them compared to an unpredictable R.  I think they are scared to try much of
anything.  No excuse... trying nothing is not what we are paying them for.
