Thanks for the link.  How did you find those?

A package for BinkD 0.9.9 is available through the standard Ubuntu
distribution channels.  I did try the package from the rndfido site but got
"bad password" errors when connecting to 3:633/267, so it's back
to the old version for me.

Haven't tried the other packages yet.

GoldED I built from source from a recent CVS checkout.  That went OK.
