There's quite the crumple zone on a 688-- the sonar dome takes up a lot of space, then the ballast tanks, and so forth. If your'e going to hit something, hit it dead-on; a sub is weakest in a side collision. Although I wouldn't want to try it myself. You can't walk through a sub without banging into *something*-- I was just the max height at 5-11.5: I just brushed a lot of piping back aft. You learn to walk in a crouch; and there are all sorts of sharp corners and equipment, as you'd imagine. The helmsman and planesman have seatbelts, as do the diving officer and Chief of the Watch. I forget if you only have to put them on at high speeds. -- Steve http://www.qmss.com/sewing --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
